Growing up, beauty was sacred in our home. Good hair was a must, and every 2-3 weeks, we were in the salon without fail. But when I moved to Australia, that rhythm changed - and my mum made sure I didn't lose it.

She would stay on the phone with me for hours, patiently guiding me as I learned to braid my own hair, always saying, "You can do it." And every time someone flew in from Kenya, she'd send packs of braiding hair — so many that shed joke I could open a salon.

But her care didn't stop at hair. After high school, she took me to a local beauty shop and bought me my very first powder, eye pencil, and lipstick. For skincare?

Fair & Lovely — a classic every Kenyan girl remembers (and yes, I'm showing my age saying that!).

Just like with braiding hair, she kept sending eye pencils in every package — I still have so many, even in 2025. I've shared them with my close friends, and each one reminds me of her quiet way of saying, "Take core of yourself. Show up with pride."

As life got busier, my mum introduced me to wigs. My first was a grey one from Wish.com - and when I sent it to her, she wore it proudly. I always wished I could send her something better. Before she passed in 2019, she gifted me my first high-quality wig - tucked into one of the last care packages she ever sent.

She used to say, "If your hair is right, and your shoes and bag are on point — you'll always make a statement." That spirit is the heart of this business.

At Virginia's Legacy of Beauty, named in her honour, I carry that legacy forward - offering luxury wig installs, custom units, and makeup artistry that uplift every woman who walks through my door. I want you to feel confident, cared for, and absolutely beautiful — because that's what she gave me.
